Want to give your lobby sign, photo frames or other wall display a greater level of sophistication? Stand-off mounting hardware is a creative way to add dimension and design elements to photograph frames, indoor signage and other wall displays. Stand-offs provide a way to secure your display or signage to the wall, while at the same time suspending it in air – or having it “stand off” of the wall.
Stand-off mounting hardware consists of three parts: barrel, cap and screw. The barrel is the part that “stands off” of the wall or whatever surface it is mounted to. The length of the barrel determines how far off of the wall your sign will be. Once the barrel is mounted to the wall, you then place your sign or whatever it is you are hanging over the barrel, and then screw the cap from the front side through your sign and into the barrel behind. Your sign is sandwiched between the barrel and the cap. If you do not want to put holes in your sign or other material in order to mount it, you can chose edge grips, which fit to the edge of your material and connect with the barrel.
The number of stand-offs you need per sign depends on the size and weight of the sign. Most signs up to about 3’x 5′ in size can be mounted with a total of four stand-offs – a single stand-off in each corner of the sign. A larger sign may need 6 stand-offs, and a small sign may be able to get by with 2 stand-offs – one each centered on opposite sides of the sign.
Stand off sign mounting hardware comes in a variety of sizes, shapes and colors. Standard sizes include 7/8″, 5/8″ or 3/8″ diameter barrels and caps, and 1″, 2″ or 3″ length barrels. Brushed or polished aluminum is the most standard finish, but custom anodized finishes in red, black, blue, copper and others are also available.
Prices for stand-offs range greatly from several dollars for standard finishes in standard sizes, to quite expensive for a small order of a few pieces in a custom size and color. Regardless of whether you chose standard or highly custom stand-offs, you can rest assured you will receive the best guidance and options for your particular project from a reputable sign company.
